![]() I'm actually a new player (I only started playing through the Steam version because the ASCII version seemed confusing to me, but apparently its unplayable for most people :( )ītw I forgot to mention, the lag I experience feels like the game is running at 10 fps (which technically it reports it is). It really feels like the UI version is the problem because Dwarf Fortress classic runs fine (60) stable. I plan on upgrading my CPU but something tells me the issue is not there. At first I was afraid this could be a Linux driver issue but I have the exact same performance in Windows 10 (which I ran in dual boot) You can control a dwarven outpost or an adventurer in a randomly generated, persistent world. My GPU is an RTX 4080 but I doubt its relevant. Dwarf Fortress is a single-player fantasy game. I have messed arround the FPS cap thing, I even tried 999 and it maintains that fps but the one in brackets is usually like 17 on an embark and when I go to a fresh new fort location it sits around 20-30. It's showing up correctly on the newer version of reddit but real weird on old reddit.Well I've seen some discussions mentioning this issue both here and on reddit, so It seemed to me like the majority of the players experienced this issue. Let me know if I missed anything and I'm curious to hear what you all think about this!Įdit: Apologies for the weird formatting. We are not bringing that much food, unlike drinks, because food IS easier to acquire than alcohol post embark. ![]() With 7 dwarves, that's 14 Meals per season, and 56 meals for the entire year. Usually water buffalo (usually male) but I got a breeding pair of donkeys once. Dwarves will on average eat 2 servings of food per season, on average once every 6 weeks. ![]() Your embark will also include 2 pack animals to pull the wagon. Your embark will also include some clothing as your dwarves bring their own clothes Embarking in Dwarf Fortress is the initial setup in the game, which includes the following basic steps: Choosing a location for your civilization. Suffice it to say when building your dwarfs I think it makes most sense to focus on the hard skills and let the social stuff fall where it may. For instance when preparing carefully I saw that almost every dwarf came with some level of poet.that's the only way I can explain the dwarves having so many extra social skills either that or "Play Now!" cheats some how. It seems like your dwarves bring some of their own individual soft skills. ~130 points of animal usually a large animal like a donkey or horse and 3-4 smaller animals.2 cats (not breeding pair for some reason).2 dogs (not breeding pair for some reason).60 alcohol, usually a mix of 2-3 types (dwarf ale, beer, rum)Īnimals (this is a weird category for reasons I'll address below but there are some consistencies below:).15 Barrel (11 Empty, I believe but am not 100%).Items (most of these are already preset in the 'prepare carefully') There are a few wonky things that I'll note at the end ![]() So I'm only like 70% on this, but I wanted to create a baseline for messing around with the "prepare carefully" option so I recorded a couple of play now embarks for people who want a starting point.
